Essay writing student tasks
Learning to type is a great skill to help students get better grades at school.
Watching videos of how to use technologies to write better essays is a worthwhile task.

To ensure students understand what has been taught, it is highly recommended they use their new knowledge.
Doing so will not suit every student.
Older students might consider tasks a waste of time and feel confident they will use the tech once back at school.
Busy students might not find the time to complete these tasks
Some younger students might not need to use all the functionality taught for some time.
This varies greatly from school to school.
The fact a younger student is on this course would suggest they will need to type on their return to school.Young students should be encouraged to type otherwise they will lose the muscle memory.
Hence parental guidance is essential
Sadly, most schools do not teach these skills, but these web pages will be available to refer to in the future.
Task 1 - Reorganise the Hare & the Tortoise Story
This task is designed with younger students in mind. It will help them utilise Read aloud on the web and Cut and paste in Microsoft Word.

Task 2 - Correct & improve descriptive writing
This task helps students utilise various helpful Word functionality.
This might be a good task to do with parents
The task differs depending on whether the student has Microsoft 365 installed on their machine. (Remember if the child’s school has a Microsoft Education license you might be able to get a free copy from the school)
Where students do not have Microsoft installed they can use Word Online to do the same exercise.

Task 3 - Dictation
This task includes 3 types of dications that students will need to use.
TASK - Create an email to someone asking them to make this recipie with you.
Dicate the message explaining what you want to do, - Students own unique thoughts.
Dictate the ingredients exactly as they are shown. - Exact copy of information supplied.
Dictate the Method of making the cake in you own words having read the reciped. - Summarise the method but using your own words.
Have a look at a model answer below. Do not copy it but use to better understand what is required.
Always think about how you can make your work easy to read.
Create something you would want to read?Dont clutter the page with lots of text.
Think about using:
Fonts
Colours
Bullets
Space
Heading
Sub-headings
Numbering.
