Dedicated space

  • Where possible, help students dedicate a space to work in each day.

  • If possible, away from siblings who can distract.

Good posture

Guard against poor posture by having the monitors at eye level. When working on a laptop, this can be achieved by:

  • Connecting to a separate monitor.

  • Using a separate keyboard and raising the laptop by putting it on something.

Be prepared

  • Ensure students have all the equipment you need BEFORE your lesson begins, including a pen and paper to make notes.

  • Minimise distractions. No phones. No games.

Take notes

  • Even if a lesson is being recorded, note making is essential for retaining the information being taught.

  • It is much easier to quickly check notes than find the relevant part of the recording.

Improve internet speed

Whilst lessons are being held remotely, ensure internet speed is adequate. Slow or unreliable machines waste precious time and hinder productivity.

Here is a post on how to speed up your internet.

If needed, purchase devices

If your budget allows, ensure that each of your children has their own device and that you have an internet connection that enables everyone to work at the same time.

If you need more devices, this article explains the factors to consider when purchasing a device for a student.
